Have you seen a notification icon on your notification pane of your android phone and when you look at it, it turned out that it was an advertisement about getting a Free iPad-2 or similar annoying ads. Sounds familiar? You must have installed an app that came with AirPush. What exactly is AirPush? AirPush is the mobile ad network that some developer bundled in their app. If a user installed an AirPush bundled app on their phone, user will start seeing random ads in the notification pane where you check if you have system alerts or new email.
There are many ads supported free apps, which display the ads in the app while it is running, those are completely fine since developer is offering his app for free and he need to generate some money for his work from ads in the app.
Summing up, it is similar to those annoying pop-ups on your PC while you are browsing the web. The bad news is these ads are popping up even the AirPush bundled app that you installed is not running. So you have no idea which app is generating the AirPush Notifications. The good news is one of the developer came up with an app called AirPush Detector (search for "AirPush Detector" in the Android Market) which can detect which app has bundled with AirPush framework. So if you usually download free apps in the Android Market and use, make sure to install AirPush Detector and run it right after you install the free app. If you found the app that use AirPush framework, uninstall it or you have to live with annoying ads on your Android phone's notification pane.
